Memorial Day Cocktail

Memorial Day is finally here, and it’s time to start enjoying some summer cocktail recipes.  Here’s one of our favorites from Charlotte Voisey that uses Art in the Age SNAP:


Corsair Red Absinthe Cocktail

Corsair RED Absinthe is a unique interpretation on a classic, green spirit.  The absinthe’s natural, red color comes from the addition of hibiscus flowers, which provide a floral note to the absinthe that is complimented by its flavors of tangy citrus, herbal undertones and a spicy, peppery finish.

Corsair RED can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but also works great in a variety of different cocktails.  Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Bourbon and Sour Mash

In the 18th episode of the second season of The West Wing, President Bartlet shares a glass of bourbon (neat) with his communications director, Toby Ziegler.  “To be called bourbon it has to come from Kentucky, otherwise it’s called sour mash,” says Martin Sheen, the actor portraying the President.

While we’re big fans of The West Wing at Caskers, we’re sad to say that the President is just wrong in this instance.  There exists a great deal of confusion as to the difference between bourbon, rye, sour mash and whiskey, and that confusion is justified – a bourbon can accurately be described as bourbon, bourbon whiskey, sour mash or just whiskey.   In an effort to shed some light on the subject, we’ve dedicated this post to explaining the terminology used in the spirits industry.
